Too often a tram come and goes while users are still waiting for the walk signal to cross busy city streets. Wouldn't it be grand if an approaching tram triggered the traffic lights so pedestrians can cross safely and catch it. Trams already trigger tram crossing signals in the suburbs so in some ways it's just an extension of this function to give pedestrians and public transport the priority.
