The Adelaide Park Lands meet four of the criteria for World Heritage Listing as a cultural landscape; they need to meet only one. There are multiple benefits to be had. Once World Heritage Listing is achieved it is a never-ending 365-day event: no annual set-up fees; no contract fees, storage costs or re-routed traffic; continuous free advertising; inclusion in all travel industry literature; and inclusion in UNESCO-endorsed books and journals. Tourism and employment would increase as would local pride in living in a world-recognised city. The Park Lands Management Strategy should incorporate specific actions to achieve World Heritage Listing for the Park Lands.
